UPDATE: Open Enrollment Further Extended

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, President Biden issued an executive order  extending open enrollment for ACA/Marketplace health insurance, also known as Obamacare. This special enrollment period, opened in February until May 15, is further extended until August 15.

That means that anyone who either doesn’t have health insurance or wants to change their plan has additional time to sign up. You can learn more about coverage and how to find a plan at healthcare.gov.

Please keep in mind that you can also sign up for marketplace insurance any time you have a qualifying event, such as the loss of employment-based or other health insurance coverage, change in marital status, change of address, and several other situations.

The enrollment period for Medicare has not changed, but there may be other ways to qualify if you missed the opportunity. Medicaid and CHIP (Child Health Insurance Program) do not have an open enrollment period. Most states will allow you to register any time you meet the financial requirements.
